Clearwater Beach, Florida

When I discovered that I scheduled a visit to Florida to get away and see an old high school friend in the midst of Spring Break, I at first panicked. It would have been fun when I was a college kid, but it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for this trip.

However, my destination, Clearwater Beach, proved to be the favorite of families with young kids on spring break. Seriously, there were more ten-year-olds running wild on sugar highs than inebriated coeds by my unofficial count. I guess the college kids stick to the well-known beaches on Florida’s east coast and have yet to discover the warm gulf waters and silky sands of Clearwater Beach.

For the Birds

The local loudmouth is the Laughing Gull, with slightly different markings (and a whole lot more noise) than the regular seagulls that hang out in equal numbers. They too aren’t too bothered by humans, and I could swear there were a few who lived to have their picture taken.
